Well, all I could say in this post is that time really flies. When we first started our visit to Rumah Juara, the only thing I can think of is ‘when will this 32 hours end?’, but it never occurred to me that it will past so fast and we have only last 3 times of social engagement left. That day, as usual, we were supposed to go to Rumah Juara at 2.30pm, but the person in charge, Miss Cecilia called us the day before to come at 8am to help them out at a church (Glad Tidings Church) as there was an event going on that day.
When we reached there, I was shocked by how big the church is, and even more shocked by the crowd inside it. The church was basically a very huge church with a lot of events going on at the same time. We followed Mr. Michael into the church and were ‘handed over’ to a lady named Mrs Tan. She was the person in charge of the selling of drinks. As things were not that busy yet, she asked us to enter the hall and watch a few performances first before we get bust. The performances were performed by organizations under the Lifecare Community Services (LCS) which are LifeZone (Drug rehabilitation center), Heritage Home (Home for senior citizens) and Rumah Juara. It was very touching when I see the children who were always so hyper-active putting their heart and soul into performing the Dikir Barat they were practicing for so long.

Then it was time for us to get busy. We were supposed to sell mango shaved ice and mango smoothie to the crowd who came for church services. The ingredients were sponsored and the equipment used were borrowed. I was in charge of the shaved ice. It was actually my first time operating the machine (with that scary-looking blade), but I think I handled it well enough, I hope. There were no pictures of us as we were too busy to even wipe our sweat.

Busy preparing before the crowd comes out.

Mango smoothie and mango shaved ice for sale! Only RM3 each!

Us and Rumah Juara kids and the other helpers.

The crowd left at about 1.30pm and we were finally allowed to rest. The aunties were even nice enough to offer us a cup of smoothie each (although we were the ones who made it).

It doesn’t look good but actually it tastes fantastic.

We wandered around the church when we were having our break and found a few interesting things.

A very nice decoration where people can write their blessings behind it. The Chinese word means ‘seed of happiness’.

A vending machine that only costs RM0.10 each cup. You can choose from a variety of coffee, ice lemon tea and milo.

When we finally left the church at about 3pm, I knew that that was another well-spent Sunday. I learned a lot of things and met a lot of nice people. Being a Buddhism, I learned that Christian teaches the same thing in the religion, which is to do good to others. I also learned that although we are from different religions, but a good heart is what unites us together.
