Fourth Day (17/5/2015) ALEXANDER CHOO CHIA CHUN (KEE140001)

On 17 May 2015, we were doing church volunteering work for Rumah Juara by selling mango smoothies and mango shaved ice under Life Care Community Services Bhd at Glad Tidings Church near Section 13, Petaling Jaya. Early in the morning, we went Glad Tidings Church and accompanied by Mr. Michael to attend a morning English Services at one of the hall in the church. During the services, there were praise and worship and also sharing about the greatness of God in our daily lives. For instance, one of the topics that the pastor was sharing is about the guest list in our lives. Often in life, we will only care for the person who is really wealthy and benefits us. In whatever occasions or gathering, these people are the ones who normally being invited as a guest. Nevertheless, we rarely care about those who are poor and needy especially those criminals. I mean, they are no different with us. We are the creation of God. Who are we to judge them as we are sinners too. In the service, there were also some performances from the children from the Rumah Juara which are Dikir Barat, indian dance and some bible verse sharing. It was pretty awesome and we were impressed by the wonderful performance from the children.

After the service, we volunteered ourselves to do some charity work and help out Rumah Juara by selling mango smoothies and mango shaved ice near the entrance of the car parking lot in the church. For the information, all the mangos, blenders and the shaved ice machine are fully sponsored by the generous member of the church for charity. After being assigned some jobs for the volunteering work, we started to sell the smoothies and shaved ice. As there were some services going on at that time, the crowd was so huge and we merely handle the work that have been given to us. For mango smoothies and mango shaved ice, the selling price is RM 3 each which was considered very cheap and reasonable. Fortunately, we got a lot of supports and help from some of the others volunteers from the church.

Honestly, we think it was very fun as it was a new experience of doing a business although it was for charity. It was like a real life simulation of what will a business looks like. Albeit the tiredness, we learnt a lot and we share the joy and laughter together as friends and coursemates. Of course, the children were happy because each of them got a free smoothies that were made by us. It was an experience of life that we will never get from the textbook. The positive energy and the smile on the children’s face really made us feel that it was actually meaningful and we feel happy for doing the volunteering work at the Glad Tidings Church. After taking some nice and memorable photos, we went back to university with a heavy heart.
