This semester I'm taking Social Engagement course, one of
the university course. Our group do the course task at Rumah Juara which
located at Jalan 1/4 46000 Petaling Jaya. During the first day we visit the
orphanage house, I'm very curious about what will I face throughout the day, is
that good or bad experience? It is not only me who was curious, from the kids
faces we can tell that they also feel the same. On that day, some of them were
doing the house chores and the rest of them resting in the house. This is based
on their daily routine duties.
We start our first day by knowing their names, ages and
schools. During the session being conducted, some of the kids trying to do a
joke by cheating their name and use their friend name. After a while, they tell
me their real name, maybe due to they start to trust us. After that, we help
them doing the house chores until it is done, it's really tiring but we happy
that we could help them. We continue our day at Rumah Juara by playing indoor
games, we playing checker, chess, snap card and Uno card game. Looking they
play the game, I'm very impressed because some of them are playing well.
Other several days at Rumah Juara, we do music and dance
tutoring class, tuition class for mathematic and reading because some of them
have a problem with it. Also, we cook the meal for dinner. Most challenging
part for me is to teach them during reading tuition. Some of them really want
to play rather than learn. Maybe they are still young so they lack focus and
attention during the class. So, I have to be patient and be creative teaching
them to ensure they understand. Now I realize that teaching kids are not an
easy job to do.
The last day, During the first hour at the Rumah Juara after
completing some of the house chores. We play indoor games, then one of the
kids, Peter asking me "today is your last day right? Why it need to be the
last? Why not keep visiting this home". I just don't know what to say,
then I reply "Why you asking me, are you miss me?". He silence for a
while and reply "yes.. I will miss you" and I reply "next time
if I got free time I will visit you guys". He goes away with his small toy
car. Several minutes later, I watch him play with his car and suddenly, he come
to me and ask me to tie up the car with the rope so that he can pull the car
all the way around the house. I do what he wanted and then he continue playing
with the car. Some of us prepare the dinner for them. After the dinner done we
all gather at the front of the house and take a picture together. After saying
goodbye, we return UM.
