Last Day (24/5/2015) ALEXANDER CHOO CHIA CHUN

It was the final day we visit Rumah Juara. I have mixed feelings. There are no words can described my feeling right now but I believe a picture speaks a thousand words. Therefore, for this last post, I am just gong to post photos to express my feelings for the last day at Rumah Juara.

First, we went to Midvalley mall again to buy some grocery for the Rumah Juara.

After we done our usual cleaning, we were having leisure time and the children were watching television programme. Kah Soon was fixing the sink at the toilet.

For the last day, we also prepared dinner for the children. The menu were sweet and sour chicken, seaweed soup, fried minced tofu and chicken, fried kangkung and watermelon lychee juice.

The last picture that we took at the Rumah Juara. After that, we left with a heavy heart and mixed feelings. We hugged the children and wished them best of luck. I really hope one day they can be a great individual and give back to the community. All and all, we were very happy to service at Rumah Juara from the first day untill the last day. We also didn't forget to thank Mr Michael and Miss Cecilia for their guidance and support for us at Rumah Juara. For me, it was one of the moments that I am not going to forget in my university life. There is a beginning and an end for everything, LIVE in the moment. Don't wait for the PERFECT moment, make every moment PERFECT. Remember that.

Fourth Day (17/5/2015) ALEXANDER CHOO CHIA CHUN (KEE140001)

On 17 May 2015, we were doing church volunteering work for Rumah Juara by selling mango smoothies and mango shaved ice under Life Care Community Services Bhd at Glad Tidings Church near Section 13, Petaling Jaya. Early in the morning, we went Glad Tidings Church and accompanied by Mr. Michael to attend a morning English Services at one of the hall in the church. During the services, there were praise and worship and also sharing about the greatness of God in our daily lives. For instance, one of the topics that the pastor was sharing is about the guest list in our lives. Often in life, we will only care for the person who is really wealthy and benefits us. In whatever occasions or gathering, these people are the ones who normally being invited as a guest. Nevertheless, we rarely care about those who are poor and needy especially those criminals. I mean, they are no different with us. We are the creation of God. Who are we to judge them as we are sinners too. In the service, there were also some performances from the children from the Rumah Juara which are Dikir Barat, indian dance and some bible verse sharing. It was pretty awesome and we were impressed by the wonderful performance from the children.

After the service, we volunteered ourselves to do some charity work and help out Rumah Juara by selling mango smoothies and mango shaved ice near the entrance of the car parking lot in the church. For the information, all the mangos, blenders and the shaved ice machine are fully sponsored by the generous member of the church for charity. After being assigned some jobs for the volunteering work, we started to sell the smoothies and shaved ice. As there were some services going on at that time, the crowd was so huge and we merely handle the work that have been given to us. For mango smoothies and mango shaved ice, the selling price is RM 3 each which was considered very cheap and reasonable. Fortunately, we got a lot of supports and help from some of the others volunteers from the church.

Honestly, we think it was very fun as it was a new experience of doing a business although it was for charity. It was like a real life simulation of what will a business looks like. Albeit the tiredness, we learnt a lot and we share the joy and laughter together as friends and coursemates. Of course, the children were happy because each of them got a free smoothies that were made by us. It was an experience of life that we will never get from the textbook. The positive energy and the smile on the children’s face really made us feel that it was actually meaningful and we feel happy for doing the volunteering work at the Glad Tidings Church. After taking some nice and memorable photos, we went back to university with a heavy heart.

Some photos of the volunteering work at Glads Tidings Church as shown in the following.

Third Day (10/5/2015) ALEXANDER CHOO CHIA CHUN

On 10 May 2015, as usual, its time for me and my group to visit Rumah Juara. This time, we decided to make something special for the children. After a serious discussion, we have come to an agreement that we were going to cook for the children. Therefore, before we were departing to the Rumah Juara, we went to the nearest mall which is Midvalley Mall to get the things that we needed to cook for the children. The menu was special chinese fried rice. After getting the things at the mall, we rushed to the Rumah Juara in time.

As usual, we did some regular cleaning at the Rumah Juara. Actually, there were a lots of work that need to do that day. For instance, sweeping and mopping the floor, doing the laundry, cleaning the toilet, folding the clothes, etc. Fortunately, me and my group worked as a team and we managed to finish it just in time before we were going to prepare for the dinner. After having some rest and chit chatting with the children, we started to prepare for the dinner.

Personally, it was my first time prepare dinner for so many children. It was quite fun and I learnt a lot from it. It was a hot and boring Sunday, the children were having their afternoon nap while we were preparing for the dinner.

Finally, we managed to cook for the children and all of them was very happy and liked our dinner so much.

At the end of the day, we felt very tired as there were so many work to do in the Rumah Juara. However, we felt very satisfied and happy because we did something meaningful today. It was a new experience for me to actually cook for other people. Although it was a simple meal, I felt that the children were very grateful and happy about it. In life, there are so many little things that can actually bring happiness to us. For instance, eating an ice cream, riding a bicycle, swimming at the sea, flying a kite. Sometime, we just have to escape from our hectic life and embrace these happy and meaningful moments in life. Life is so great, you just have to LIVE IT.
